So am I brave or just foolhardy? With eyes wide open I have launched into a series that celebrates, celebrities!
Celebrities are a lucky breed, rarely plagued by existential questions like that classic one: To be or not to be? And why should they be? Plagued that is! They are the walking talking living dolls of soft power. What they say, what they wear, what they do, and critically what they achieve are the benchmarks lesser mortals measure up to all their lives, and set the records that society preserves for posterity.
So? Aren't they already getting their due? Isn't there a raging debate about how media genuflects at the altar of fame and peddles the lifestyle of the rich and famous as the new opium of the masses? True. But this is how I am hoping it plays out. Make celebrities accountable. Remind us and them about the craft, the skill, the talent that got them started out in the first place. Find out through all those column cms they get, the sound bites they spout, the photo ops they provide, if they they deserve our attention? Our time? Our admiration? Our envy? Our hate even? What is it really like to be a celebrity? How much are they really like and not like us? And crucially is it worth it? I am hoping to get to know that by the time I am done with this.

Chasing celebrities. Always tough. Seldom pleasant. The pound of flesh for this pursuit a huge chunk of your ego.
