Jind: The body of 23-year-old Captain Pawan Kumar, who died while fighting militants in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday reached his native village where his last rites would be conducted.

The last rites of the Captain will be conducted with full military honours at Badhana village in Jind.

Earlier on Monday, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Indian Air Force base at Pathankot in Punjab, from where the body was flown to his hometown in Jind.

In view of the Jat stir in Haryana, the Army had appealed to the people of Haryana to extend support in giving a "befitting farewell" to the brave son of the soil. Kumar, an officer of the elite Para unit who hailed from Jind, was among two Army personnel from the unit who lost their lives in the fierce encounter with militants holed up inside a government building in Pampore town.

The young captain of the Special Forces was an inspiring leader who despite being injured earlier in an anti-terrorist operation went on to volunteer for more operations.
