C Ve Shanmugam out of State Cabinet

In a significant reshuffle in the State Cabinet, CM J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday dropped Minister for Commercial Taxes and Law and senior AIADMK functionary C Ve Shanmugam and shuffled the portfolios of some ministers. The announcement came soon after Shanmugam was removed as the party’s Villupuram North district secretary.

The CM has inducted Chief Government Whip and former minister P Mohan (61) as a new minister and he will be sworn in on Saturday.

Mohan has been allocated Rural Industries, including Cottage Industries and Small Industries, and has been designated as Minister for Rural Industries. B V Ramana, looking after Environment and Pollution Control, has been designated as Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration.

Social Welfare Minister B Valarmathi has been given the Nutritious Noon Meal Programme as an additional portfolio which was hitherto held by M C Sampath, in addition to the Rural Industries portfolio. Sampath will be designated as Minister for Environment and will look after the Pollution Control portfolio too. N R Sivapathy, Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, will also hold the portfolio of Law, Courts and Prisons, Personnel and Administrative Reforms and Prevention of Corruption.
