BANGALORE: Bangalore University has decided not to evaluate the answer scripts of over 1,000 students of 11 blacklisted BEd colleges whose Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) reports are pending for discussion. The work will start from Wednesday. Earlier, around 80 teachers who were in-charge of evaluation had refused to evaluate answer scripts of the students of the 11 colleges which have been blacklisted by the committee. However, they gave in after a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev, who assured them that the answer scripts from the blacklisted colleges would be kept aside. “We had made it clear to these colleges that the students would be writing the exams at their own risk. For the time being, the papers will not be evaluated,” said Prabhu Dev. He added that a task force had been constituted and that evaluations would be conducted only after the task force decision on affiliation to these colleges is made clear. Meanwhile, Karan Kumar H, a member of the Academic Council, said: “The colleges have been blacklisted for a number of reasons, from lack of infrastructure to intake exceeding 100 students to use of agents to draw in students. However, the VC and Registrars (Administration and Evaluation) issues allowed the disaffiliated colleges to conduct exams.”Karan Kumar added, “We are looking at various options to deal with this issue. The Academic Council may also ask the High Court to take up the issue of blacklisted colleges.” Over 7,000 students from around 140 colleges had written the BEd first semester examinations conducted between May 10 and 18.
