BHUBANESWAR: Suspecting foul play through electronic voting machines (EVMs), the BJP on Saturday reiterated its demands for replacement of the EVMs brought from Malkangiri district to Umerkote. In a fresh memorandum to the chief electoral officer, copies of which were sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, the election observer of the CEC for Umerkote and the returning officer for the by-election, BJP spokesperson Jeeban Sahoo said that his party had every right to suspect that the EVMs are not tamper-proof. The election officer be directed to replace the EVMs sent to Umerkote by new ones. Sahoo further alleged that the ruling BJD workers are removing the BJP posters, hoardings and gates erected at different locations of the Umerkote Assembly constituency in violation of the election code of conduct. The police deployed by the Election Commission for maintaining law and order are silent spectators to the vandalism.
