Works worth Rs 638 crore were recommended by MPs in Bihar against an entitlement of Rs 760 crore during the 15th Lok Sabha period under MPLAD scheme, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister Srikant Kumar Jena also said that the Centre released Rs 553 crore in the state during the 15th Lok Sabha period and district authorities utilised Rs 350.60 crore as on December 5 this year.
During the 15th Lok Sabha period, each MP had an entitlement of Rs 19 crore under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme. Every MP was entitled to Rs 2 crore each per annum in 2009-10 and 2010-11. They were entitled to Rs 5 crore each per annum in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14.
He said that Prabhunath Singh, an MP from Maharajganj recommended works worth Rs 6.67 crore during the 15th Lok Sabha period which is the least amount among 40 MPs in the state. Dinesh Chandra Yadav, an MP from Khagaria has recommended works worth Rs 25.81 crore during the period under review, which is the highest amount.
Under the MPLAD scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs 5 crore per annum (from 2011-12) to be taken up in his or her constituency. The Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha can recommend works in one or more districts in the state from where he or she has been elected.
The nominated MPs of both the Houses may select any one or more districts from any one state in the country for implementation of their choice of work under the scheme.
