Mumbai: Actor Amitabh Bachchan turned emotional while receiving a doctorate from the Leeds Metropolitan University on Saturday.
"What makes this doctorate really special is the fact that I've received it in Britain. To be thus decorated in the country where my father (Harivansh Rai Bachchan) got his doctorate at Cambridge, and that too in my father's centenary year, makes this a very emotional experience for me," Bachchan said.
He was humbled by the experience. "My doctorate can never be compared with my father's. But this is a moment that I'll cherish forever."
Filmmaker Yash Chopra and actress Shabana Azmi were also honoured along with Bachchan on Saturday at the university.
This is the second time an honorary degree has been conferred on him by a British University.
The De Montfort University in Leicester had honoured Bachchan with an honorary Doctor of Arts degree on July 19, 2006 in recognition of his distinguished career in films.
