BANGALORE: Images adorning the city walls with popular tourist destinations and famous personalities of Karnataka might not been seen for some time. Mural artists, it seems, are not interested to accept Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)’s offer to paint city walls. BBMP had floated the tender thrice this year, but received no response. Lack of participation from agencies and artists has provoked the agency to step back from the project. The project is said to be the brainchild of former BBMP commissioner Bharath Lal Meena.  However, Palike has invited tender this time too, hoping participation from artists. According to a senior official, when BBMP started this project in 2010, more than 100 artists participated in the bid and 32 artists were shortlised. These artists along with their assistants beautified city’s walls and maintained them for an year. The project had cost Rs 75 lakh.In the first phase, Palike had selected a few major roads in Bangalore including Seshadri Road, Okalipuram Junction some roads in Gandhinagar. “Now, we are planning to paint more main roads including interior roads. With painting on walls, beauty of roads has come down to some extend,” the official said. The official said reason for artists non-participation was unknown. In the meanwhile, a few artists have approached the BBMP enquiring about the project, which has raised hopes in the officials.
