BANGALORE: Located on Ramana Maharshi Road in the midst of a peaceful residential locality, this park was developed and maintained by the BWSSB as part of their installation of ground water tanks. Open to the general public initially for three years, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was forced to close down the park owing to various anti social elements making it their regular haunt. This park is home to two main reservoirs of the BWSSB and is considered to be a secure location. The residents of the area however, were deprived of a beautifully landscaped garden to spend their evenings in. The residents association of the area complained to the minister of BWSSB, Suresh Kumar on Friday and managed to secure access to the park for senior citizens for a period of four hours everyday. An idea mooted by local residents was to provide a list of senior citizens to the BWSSB who could then issue identity cards allowing access to the park for two hours in the morning and evening everyday. This is similar to another park in Davangere known fondly as the ‘Ajja-Ajji’ park which is open only to senior citizens.“Access to the park will be granted from Monday onwards in line with the orders of our minister Suresh Kumar,” said Prahlad Rao, PRO, BWSSB.“We certainly needed a calm place to spend some time in the evenings, with this development, we can finally have a place to walk. There really was no need to close it down to the public entirely,” said Shankar, a resident of the area.
