It takes tremendous patience and special admiration for singers Mika Singh and Shaan to watch their Bollywood debut 'Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya'. This alleged comedy features Mika and Shaan as lead actors and singers, and yet it fails to offer soulful music, let alone superior acting. But if you've survived films that are extremely hard to watch, this one will be another incredibly tough and senseless movie you'd have subjected yourself to.

Directed by Sunil Agnihotri, the film centers on the lives of Mika and Shaan, and the confusion that follows because they share the same name 'Balwinder Singh'. To make things even more complex, Anupam Kher, who plays a millionaire, gets an advertisement printed in newspapers to find his grandson, whose name is also Balwinder. Too much nonsensical confusion, right? Well, that's not where it ends. Since this is an interesting opportunity to be the one and only heir to Anupam's property, both Balwinder Patialewale (Shaan) and Balwinder Ludhianewale (Mika) do everything to prove they are his long-lost grandson.

For the majority of the first half of 'Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya', the action moves to and fro between the lives of Balwinder Patialewale and Balwinder Ludhianewale. While Balwinder Ludhianewale shifts to Mumbai to actualize his dreams, Balwinder Patialewale has been surviving in the city by conning people, shirking his duty to pay monthly accommodation rent and making everyone feel guilty because they don't carry their PAN cards. Just when the two decide to leave rented accommodation which they have to use together, Gabriela Bertante moves into a new apartment, making them drop the idea to vacate the room. Haven't we heard the script before? Yes. Honestly speaking, the film fails because it has no plot and the scriptwriting is unpersuasive.

Shaan, who we have loved for years for his flawless singing, proves that memorizing dialogues is as comfortable and easy as crooning popular hits. So while we love him for reveling in his dual abilities, Mika could have done a lot better. But before Mika proves his acting potential in more films, we want to know if he isn't popular enough and loved enough to be content with singing?

Thankfully, the film gains steam in the second half when Anupam Kher charts out a plan to find his grandson. While Anupam is impressive as a helpless millionaire, Vindu Dara Singh looks convincing as his menacing nephew and funny , and Rajpal Yadav makes his contribution incredibly strong with his comic timing. Unfortunately, none of these actors can salvage the film.

Those planning to watch the film for its humour, here's a word of caution. Opt for it if gross-out and juvenile humour is what you are interested in. Ostensibly, this is a comedy, but rationally, it's just the opposite. It's a scary look at the level unemployed men can stoop to to kill an old lady who'd soon reveal neither of them is the heir to the property. The film is so tragically unfunny that those who have watched it will agree on its horridness.
