New Delhi: Baby Damini, who shot into the limelight five years ago after her heart-wrenching story was highlighted by the media, is now an orphan.
The five-year-old, who lost her mother at childbirth five years ago, has now lost her father Babloo as well. Babloo passed away under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday.
Damini’s story first came out in 2012, after images of Babloo carrying the then few days old child in a sling around his neck while pulling a rickshaw in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur to make ends meet made its way to various media outlets.
Following this, help poured with a number of people sending monetary help for Babloo and Damini. Even the district administration did their bit by opening a bank account. Over time, nearly Rs 18 lakh was collected. The district collector also established a committee to look after Damini’s well-being and help in her upbringing.
Five years later, Damini is now staring at an uncertain future yet again.
Babloo was found dead in Bharatpur’s Numaish Maidan on Tuesday. The reason for his death is not yet known. With no known family, his body was cremated by the police.
Child Development Committee Head Saroj Lohiya said that Damini will be put in a state child home.
