Melbourne: Reaching out to the Indian community to help it 'connect and integrate' with the city that was recently hit by attacks on Indians, Melbourne authorities are gearing up to celebrate Diwali with doses of cricket and Bollywood to be part of the extravaganza.

The festival will be celebrated next month with major events planned in the western part of the city of Maribyrnong, where the incidents of attacks were reportedly higher.

"Its actually Diwali festival for everyone," said Chairman of the Diwali Organising Committee and also Member of State Parliament, Marsha Thomson.

"The event will be held on October 3 and will involve Indian students, local Indian community members as well as local Australian community members to show the spirit of multiculturalism," she said.
