New Delhi: After Apple first took the wraps off its iPad, the tablet war began. Almost all leading manufacturers, irrespective of the products they have been building, started serving their take on the tablet. While India has seen a rise in the number of low-end tablets, the number of tablets globally may decline.
Sources from Upstream supply chain point out that PC hardware manufacturers like HP, Acer, AsusTek and Dell may slowly phase out from the tablet market, as they don’t seem to have advantage over content provided by Apple, Amazon and Barnes & Noble, according to reports by Digitimes. With Asus and Acer’s tablets in pipeline, this is mere speculation.
Moreover, companies like Apple, Amazon and Barnes & Noble have a strong content support, reveal the report. With Amazon and Barnes & Nobile offering tablets at low prices, PC manufacturers may not have any profits due to price competition. The Kindle Fire and Nook have all pinned hopes with the holiday season with a plethora of features at an affordable price. Reportedly, iPad 2 has a good demand in the market, but the sales are not as much as the original iPad.
Amaon and B&N are said to be gaining profit from content, rather than hardware and could eventually be offered for free, says sources. What do you think?
