Guwahati: Two NDFB(S) militants have been apprehended during a joint operation by security forces in Assam's Sonitpur district. Based on specific input from Army intelligence, a joint operation was launched by Army and Police near Batasipur area of the district on Tuesday, a defence spokesperson said.
The entire area was cordoned off by security forces and after search two suspected NDFB(S) cadres were nabbed. The apprehended militants have been identified as Nijam Basumatry and Rajib Basumatry.
Two grenades and ammunition of AK 47 rifle were seized from their possession. The NDFB(S) had launched an attack on adivasis in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts resulting in retaliatory violence and police firing which altogether claimed 81 lives.
Subsequently, the security forces launched continuous operations against the outfits resulting in the arrest of nearly 70 hardcore militants so far.
