TIRUCHY: A day after Union minister M K Alagiri visited his close aide ‘Attack’ Pandi at the Central Prison here, younger brother and DMK treasurer M K Stalin on Friday met party functionaries lodged in the jail.Stalin, on his way to Pudukottai for a public meeting, stopped at Tiruchy and met MLA Anita Radhakrishnan, ‘Essar’ Gopi, Kudamurtti T Sekar, Sherif and Mamundi at the prison.Addressing reporters outside the prison, he dubbed the charges against former minister K N Nehru as lies, adding a warning that “those involved in the complaint will have to answer when the time comes.” He reiterated the charge that the AIADMK government was foisting cases against DMK functionaries out of political vendetta. On Nehru’s arrest, he said, “Even judges hesitated to send them (Nehru and others) to prison since there was no proper arrest warrant.”He said complainant Dr K Srinivasan had willingly handed over the land for the construction of the DMK headquarters here — the Kalaignar Arivalayam — and had received a gold ring and a shawl from Karunanidhi in appreciation of his gesture. He went on to say that Srinivasan was so thick with the party leadership that the marriage of one of his family members had been conducted at the Kalaignar Arivalayam. “He was forced to sign the complaint. The person who has complained too will have to answer the court when the time comes,” Stalin warned.Replying a query, he asserted that the ruling party could not cripple the DMK and its activities for the upcoming local body elections. “Even if they arrest a Nehru, an Anita Radhakrishnan or a Veerapandi Arumugam, thousands of Nehrus, Radhakrishnans and Veerapandi Arumugams will emerge and do the party work,” Stalin thundered.Former ministers N Selvaraj, Ragupathi and Sekar Babu accompanied him.
