PRODDATUR: A dispute with relatives over the sharing of irrigation water led to the broad daylight killing of a father-son duo near the Regional Transport Authority office here on Tuesday.Nadipenna and his son Govardhan Reddy of Chennamarajupalle village were riding a motorcylce when seven men in a Tata Sumo knocked them down. They set upon the victims and slit their throats, killing them on the spot.Police said Nadipenna and seven others of the same village were suspects in the murder of Rajuvari Subbarayudu and his brother’s son Lakshminaryana on May 6. They were all in custody but Nadipenna was recently released on bail.Nadipenna and Subbarayudu, both Congress supporters, had been having a dispute over irrigation water in their fields.This was aggravated by their desire for political dominance in the village.Their dispute resulted in a clash during the recent Kadapa byelections, leading to the murder of Subbarayudu and his nephew on May 6.On Tuesday, Nadipenna and his son went to the tahsildar’s office in Proddatur on some work. They were attacked by vengeance- seeking their rivals while going back home. A friend Subbaiaha, who was following Nadipenna on another motorcycle was injured when he tried to intervene. He has been admitted in hospital.Based on a complaint lodged buy from Nadipenna’s elder son Srinivasulu, the Proddatur rural police have registered a case and took up investigation. DSP Karunakar, rural CI Janardhan Naidu and SI Obulesu visited the scene offence.
