BANGALORE: Organised by Shree Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha, the 49th Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava celebrated day 10 on September 10 at APS college grounds, Basavanagudi.The melodious evening saw a huge audience who were extremely pleased to watch S P Balasubramaniam performing live.Be it Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu or other languages, S P Balu has sung in over fifteen languages and for different genres.F o r t h e e v e n i n g Balasubramaniam started with Mamaravello, and moved on to sing more popular Kannada songs like Snehada Kadallalli, Santhoshakke, Jotheyalli from the movie Geetha among others.He also sang his popular Tamil songs like Elaya ila from Payanangal Mudivadhillai and Mannil Intha Kadhal from Keladi Kanmani.His performance included Telugu as well as Hindi tracks which were Purushotama and Teri Payal Mere Geet from the movie Teri Payal Mere Geet and Aaja Meri Jaan of the movie Aaja Meri Jaan.S P Balu said, “The first time I sang for the Utsava was in the year 1975 and this is the fifth performance of mine here.I am a member of the Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha and I have seen it evolve over the years.The next generation has taken up the responsibility of organising the Utsava every year and are doing a beautiful job.It’s all so nostalgic remembering the previous years.” He has won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer six times closely following K J Yesudas.He has sung over 40,000 songs in 15 Indian languages with a career spanning over four decades.He started his career in 1966 and went on to become one of the leading playback singers of his time in India.S P Balu has won many Filmfare awards, National awards along with Filmfare south awards for playback singing.His voice is firm and pleasing and can be modulated to suit a large variety of songs.On Sunday, September 11, the Ganesh Utsava concluded with Sathyanarayana pooja and Annadana in the morning at 9 am.This was followed by Visarjana of Lord Ganesha’s idol at 5 pm at the APS College grounds.The strong crowd at APS College Grounds also got the opportunity to taste the most authentic Kannadiga oota from every district of Karnataka as part of Aromas of Karnataka — The Food Utsava.The six stalls representing the six districts of Karnataka had almost 100 dishes that came at an absolutely affordable price range of `10 to `30.
