KOCHI: The government would introduce the amended National Maritime Lawin the next Parliament session, said Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K V Thomas, on Sunday. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the academic building complex of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies  here. One of the major amendments is that up to 12 nautical miles from the shore would come under the state jurisdiction while the Central jurisdiction will range from 12 to 200 nautical miles, he said.Thomas also asked the state to utilise the central funds within the stipulated timeframe. Though the Central Government had earmarked an amount of `100 crore in the previous budget for the Veterinary University, the state failed to utilise it, he added. K Babu, Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise, presided over the function. MLAs Dominic Presentation and S Sarma, district panchayat president Eldose Kunnappilly, Maradu municipal chairman T K Devarajan and  Vice-Chancellor B Madhusoodhana Kurup were also present.
