After sweeping polls, its mission clean-up

MADURAI: After taking over as Madurai Mayor, V V Rajan Chellappa promises to embark on a mission to clean up the city and make it pollution free.As a first task, Chellappa said he will make efforts to clean up one selected locality. The work will later be extended to other areas. He will then focus on providing  drinking water to the students of the Corporation schools as they were deprived of basic amenities. Chellappa said he will tour all the 100 wards in 100 days to hear the grievances of the public and resolve the issues.Asked about the implementation of the government-sponsored schemes in Madurai Corporation during the DMK regime, Chellappa said a large number of irregularities had taken place and a probe into multi-crore scams will be conducted. Department-wise inquiries will also be done. He said a lot of irregularities had taken place in outsourcing the employees for Corporation works. Chellappa also plans to make transparent the functions of various committees in the Corporation.
