BANGALORE: One day after the extravagant festivals in city, piles of leftover plantain twigs and flowers were seen lying at markets and on streets. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in spite of making promises to clean the city, failed yet again. In the recent BBMP Council meeting, BBMP commissioner Siddaiah had assured to make adequate arrangements to dump garbage. He had assured to clean the garbage twice a day, for the next four days, post festivals.A senior official from BBMP said that in Bangalore everyday, 5000 tonne of garbage is being collected. After the festival, the garbage load has doubled. “Firstly, we have less number of sweepers. With double the work load during festival time, it is difficult to clean the city .”Raghuveer, one of the medical shop owner on Magadi road said that loads of plantain twigs were dumped in front of his shop. “The road is congested due to Metro construction work. Now, with twigs and rotten flowers, we are in a horrible state,” he said.Condition on Siddaiah road near Wilson Garden is no better. The leftovers of the festival is rotting since two days. When contacted, S Harish, deputy mayor, said, “Everything will be cleared by Saturday evening.”
