BANGALORE:  Stray dog menace, lack of water supply and garbage strewn in the vacant sites are a few common sight in Naidu Layout, Jaraganahalli. Residents are agitated with the system as their complaints are not considered by the authorities and have fallen on deaf ears every time. The roads in this layout are filled with potholes and are unfit for any vehicular movement. Residents complain that after filing many complaints to the corporator and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, only a few roads connecting to Kanakapura Main road were asphalted. Kanthamma Y, resident of Naidu Layout, said, “We are facing this problem for many years. We have filed numerous complaints to the authorities but in vain. Two years ago, cement roads were laid which was of a very low-priced quality. Today, roads are just filled with dust and nowhere cement is seen.”Lack of water supply is another issue in this area. Water is supplied on unstipulated timings, claims many residents. “We have to keep ourselves awake all night to check if there is water supply. Normally we receive water once in three days. We have been supplied with Cauvery water for past two years irregularly. We have to walk a long distance in near-by villages to fetch a pot drinking water,” said Chandrakala Sathish, a resident. Residents claim that metre to gauge the usage of Cauvery water has been installed in every house and the minimum bill is paid by them but without the water supply. On the other hand, this area is not free of stray dog menace. The residents complain that it is difficult for one to cross roads due to the attack of ferocious dogs. Girish Gowda, a resident said, “We have also complained to the authorities about the same but in vain. Over 10 dogs hoot at night without letting anyone sleep in this area.” Garbage dumping in the vacant sites and on roads goes unsaid. Though there are civic workers to collect garbage every day, people lack awareness about cleanliness and hygiene said Suguna Balakrishna, corporator of this ward. “I am striving to keep the ward cleaning by appointing the civic workers to collect the garbage regularly but the residents must also join hands with us to maintain the surroundings clean. Sanitary work by BWSSB is also in progress.”When asked about the bad conditions of the roads, Suguna said, “It was just two days ago, we were given funds for the development of the ward. Tenders, to asphalt the roads, are also called. We have already started the developmental work in our ward and the work is in progress.”
