A Medical College every year: Government

CHENNAI: A medical college will be established in a district every year, Health Minister V S Vijay said. Responding to  the Demand for Grants to the Health Department, Vijay said the previous DMK regime hastily announced that medical colleges would be set up in districts, including Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai. However, no action was taken. Infrastructural norms required for establishing medical colleges were not fulfilled. “There are many stipulations, including a land area of 25 acres and 500 beds, to set up a medical college.” Now, it has been decided to set up a college every year in a district which is practicable, the minister told the Assembly.
