An 8-year-old girl was killed allegedly in celebratory firing during a marriage procession in Hathras, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday night when the groom's father, Durgadutt Upadhaya, a BSP worker, fired from his licenced gun in Tabela gali while the marriage procession was on its way to a local guest house, V S Tyagi, Inspector Kotwali police station said.
Khushi was watching from the terrace of her house and suffered injuries in her stomach, he said, adding that she succumbed on her way to hospital.
The accused has been taken into custody and his licence is being cancelled, Additional Superintendent of Police Sri Krishna said.
