CHENNAI: Following stringent action by the State Election Commission, 70 persons have been arrested so far in various parts of Tamil Nadu in connection with auctioning of local body posts. State Election Commissioner S Ayyar told Express that due to the concerted efforts of the Commission, incidents of auctioning have come down drastically.As far as incidents of bribing voters by offering money and food are concerned, the SEC said district level squads had been formed to prevent such incidents.Meanwhile, the SEC has convened a meeting of top police officials on October 14 to discuss the final arrangements for elections to the local bodies. The DGP, City Police Commissioner and other officials would take part in the discussions.Meanwhile, the SEC shifted the DSPs of Sirkazhi taluk and Vedaranyam based on by the election observors, that the officials did not discharge their duties satisfactorily.
