BANGALORE: The state government plans to upgrade the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) at a cost of Rs 50 crore, said Forest Minister C P Yogeshwar. Speaking during the adoption of 31 animals by Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrashekar on Sunday, Yogeshwar called upon public to adopt animals in BBP as the government alone cannot afford the expenditure.MP Rajeev Chandrashekar launched the campaign for adoption of inhabitants of BBP and handed over a cheque for Rs 6.89 lakh to Raju, director, Bannerghatta Biological Park.Chandrashekhar adopted 31 inhabitants including an Asiatic Elephant, Royal Bengal Tiger, Chinkara, Giant Squirrel, Spoonbill in the name of his wife Anju Chandrashekhar, children Ved and Devika.“This is a laudable gesture by Rajeev.This kind of adoption is practised at various sanctuaries,” said Yogeshwar.Raju said that about `70 lakh donation has been collected from various corporate houses for the development of the park.‘Nothing Personal Against DKS’Yogeshwar, who is in a verbal duel with Congress leader D K Shivakumar over the alleged illegal quarrying in Ramanagaram, said that he has no personal grudge against Kumar.“We have ordered an investigation against illegal mining in areas surrounding Bannerghatta.The report is expected to come in about 15 days,” he added
