On a day when the party sacked Ashok Chavan and Suresh Kalmadi, it spared telecom minister A Raja.

New Delhi: On a day when Congress cracked down on its tainted leaders, forcing Ashok Chavan to resign as Maharashtra CM and Suresh Kalmadi as Secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party, sources say the party is unlikely to act against tainted telecom minister A Raja over the 2G spectrum scam.

The party has made it clear that action - if any - has to be taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said, "The matter of A Raja has been in focus for many months now and the matter is now sub judice, pending in court. So until the court takes a view, it will be difficult for us to comment or take any further action."

Govt sources say they are worried about the Raja factor also because the CAG report on 2G spectrum allotment is to be tabled in Parliament.

Raja has in the past said that the PM was in the know of the 2G spectrum allotments, embarrassing the Congress party a great deal.

The Opposition meanwhile raised the 'sack Raja' pitch on the first day of the Winter session of the Parliament. The AIADMK has given notice for suspension of Question Hour to discuss the issue.
