23 dead in Maoists, Nepal Army clash
This was the deadliest gun battle between the Maoists and the Nepal army since the rebels ended a four months old truce a few weeks ago.

Kathmandu: Twenty-three people have been killed in a clash between the Maoists and the Nepal Army. Among those killed are 17 Maoist guerrillas.

The bodies of the dead Maoists and some of their weapons were recovered from the site of the clash at a village near Kathmandu.

Reports say that this was the deadliest gun battle between the Maoists and the Nepal army since the rebels ended a four months old truce a few weeks ago.

News of the clash came just hours after police in Kathmandu baton charged crowds demanding that King Gyanendra restore democracy in Nepal.
