After A Disappointing Theatrical Run, Chiranjeevi's Bholaa Shankar is Now On Netflix
Bholaa Shankar revolves around the life of Shankar, who arrives in Kolkata with his sister Mahalakshmi.

Chiranjeevi-starrer Bholaa Shankar is streaming on the OTT platform Netflix from today. Directed by Meher Ramesh, this film was released at the theatres on August 11 and received unfavourable reviews. Critics and the audience criticised the film for having a lacklustre storyline and no entertaining elements. Bholaa Shankar revolves around the life of Shankar (Chiranjeevi) who arrives in Kolkata with his sister Mahalakshmi (Keerthy Suresh). Shankar turns into a taxi driver for livelihood and helps the Calcutta police with an important clue about the woman trafficking crimes. He also tries to nab the criminals for which his life takes a drastic turn. How Shankar hunts down the woman trafficking network forms the core theme of the film’s story. Tamannaah Bhatia, Raghu Babu, Murali Sharma, P Ravi Shankar, Vennela Kishore, Sreemukhi, and other actors acted in this film.

As per the reports, the Telugu state rights for Bholaa Shankar were estimated at approximately Rs 76 crore. The film managed to accumulate less than Rs 20 crore solely from the Telugu states. It resulted in a staggering loss of around Rs 60 crore for the producers. This loss included the production and promotion costs. There were reports of a fallout between Bholaa Shankar’s producer Anil Sunkara and Chiranjeevi. Reports pointed out that the Megastar, as Chiranjeevi is popularly known, demanded the entire sum of Rs 65 crore paid to him despite the poor run of the film.

There were reports that Anil had mortgaged his property to pay the dues of Chiranjeevi. Anil rubbished these reports in a tweet. He tweeted,” The rumours regarding the disputes that are being circulated online are completely BASELESS & SENSELESS and don’t have a single per cent of truth in them. We Kindly Request everyone NOT to BELIEVE such kind of news and have unnecessary discussions over it (sic).”

Chiranjeevi has been reeling under the underwhelming performance of his films for a long time now. His last few releases – Acharya, Godfather, and Waltair Veerayya – received abysmal reviews from the audience. He is now looking forward to his other upcoming films like The Journalist, a project tentatively titled Chiru 157, and others to revive his career.
