6 Simple Ways to Play Music While Recording Video
Do you want to record a video and keep the music playing in the background? Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can do this! Whether you have an Android or iPhone, this wikiHow article covers how you can play music while recording video.
Things You Should Know
  • If you're using an updated iPhone, press and hold the capture button in your camera without leaving Photo Mode to capture video with music in the background.
  • Alternatively, you can also use Snapchat or Instagram to record the music playing from your phone on an Android or iPhone.
  • If you have an Android or use an older iPhone, use third-party apps like Mideo or Record Video With Music.

Using QuickTake on iPhone (iOS 13+)

Open your iPhone's Camera app. If you have a newer iPhone, you also have the QuickTake video capture feature, which means that you can capture video while taking photos! If you don't have your music playing, play it now with any music player like Apple Music or Spotify. Don't switch out of Photo Mode.

Press and hold the shutter button. If you want to take something like Burst Mode pictures, slide your finger on the shutter to the left. To record hands-free, slide your finger on the shutter to the right and release it. Tap the "Record" button to stop recording. You can find your video in your gallery app. QuickTake sacrifices video resolution and frame rate for the convenience of not switching to Video Mode. The videos you capture with QuickTake will appear in 1440 x 1920 pixels at 30 FPS, while videos captured using Video Mode are recorded at significantly higher quality in 4k at 60 FPS.

Using Instagram for iPhone and Android

Open Instagram. Tap the app icon that looks like a camera lens on a multicolored orange and pink background. Instagram Reels record up to 90 seconds, so if you have music that lasts longer, consider recording and downloading multiple Reels. If you don't have your music playing, play it now with any music player like Apple Music or Spotify.

Open the Instagram camera. Do this by swiping left or right when the app opens and selecting "Reel" from the dial menu below the shutter button.

Tap and hold the white button to record. Alternatively, you can record hands-free by tapping the white circle to start recording and tapping it again when you want to stop recording. Tap Next or use the icons on the side to edit your video.

Tap Android 7 Download. This Download icon looks like an arrow pointing down at a line and you can find it in the top right corner of your screen. Tapping this will download the video to your gallery, so you can view it from your gallery instead of opening Instagram.

Using Snapchat on iPhone and Android

Open Snapchat. Tap the app icon that looks like a white ghost on a yellow background. You can record up to 60 seconds. So if your music is longer than that, capture and save multiple Snaps. If you don't have your music playing, play it now with any music player like Apple Music or Spotify.

Press and hold the white button. To start recording a Snap, tap and hold the button, then release it when you're done recording.

Tap Save. It's in the lower-left corner of your screen and will save the video to your gallery.

Using Mideo (iPhone)

Open Mideo. There are a few third-party apps you can use to play music in the background while recording a video on iPhone. One of the most popular options is called Mideo. Download Mideo for free from the App Store. If you don't have your music playing, play it now with any music player like Apple Music or Spotify.

Tap Start Recording. This will begin recording a video while your music continues playing! If your music pauses, resume it using the Control Center/Quick Settings panel (swipe down or up from your screen and tap the icon to play your music).

Using Record Video with Music (Android)

Download and open Record Video with Music. There are plenty of apps on the Google Play Store that let you record and play music at the same time, but Record Video With Music seems to be the most popular and most talked about solution. If you don't have your music playing, play it now with any music player like Apple Music or Spotify.

Tap Android 7 Videocamera. It's a video camera icon at the bottom of your screen. If you want to stop recording, tap the same icon that looks like a square. The video will immediately and automatically save to your device, so you can find it in your gallery.

Screen Recording on iPhone

Enable Screen Recording in Settings. To enable Screen Recording, go to Settings > Control Center and tap + next to "Screen Recording."

Open Control Center. How you do this varies depending on the model of iPhone you have: For iPhone X and later, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen. For iPhone 8 and earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge of your screen.

Tap iPhone Screen Recording CC. This icon looks like a shutter button on other cameras and will begin recording your screen, even if you have music playing. Tap the red Screen Recording icon to stop recording. Find your recorded video in Photos.
