Ridley Scott is set to release Napoleon this weekend in India. Ahead of the film's release, here's a look at some of his best works.

Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott is all set to bring the classic story of Napoleon to the big screen this Friday. Napoleon is a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix. Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte’s relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.

Alien

Released in 1979, Ridley Scott helmed this film that followed the journey of a crew in space that comes across a mysterious derelict spaceship and realise they have to tackle a deadly extraterrestrial. The film starred Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto.

Blade Runner

Considered as a masterpiece, this film is a yet another experiment with the sci-fi genre by Scott. Set in the a dystopian future Los Angeles of 2019, the 1982 release starred Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos and is often revisited by sci-fi genre fans.

Thelma & Louise:

The 1991 film was a depature from sci-fi genre for Scott as he experimented with a road movie featuring romantic comedy and drama elements. The film starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis in the titular role. The film has been praised for its strong feminist overtones and won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay – Written Directly for the Screen.

Gladiator:

This 2000 epic historical drama is considered one of Scott’s best works. The film featured a stellar starcast, including Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Tomas Arana, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel, Richard Harris, and Tommy Flanagan. The film went on to not only earn big at the box office but also won the Best Picture Oscar award.

The Martian

The 2015 survival drama starred Matt Damon in the lead and what a cinematic experience it was. The film was set in the future, 2035 to be specific, and revolved around an astronaut’s struggle to survive on Mars alone.
