Actor Sebastian Stan’s first look as young Donald Trump is creating a buzz on social media. Stan, who is known for playing Bucky Barnes in Marvel movies, will be portraying Donald Trump in the upcoming biographical film called The Apprentice. The film will document Trump’s life during the 1970s and 1980s when he was a real estate agent in New York City. The movie is named after Trump’s reality show of the same name that ran from 2004 to 2017. It is directed by Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi. It also stars Academy Award-winning actor Maria Bakalova as Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, and actor Jeremy Strong, of Succession fame, as lawyer Roy Cohn.
On Tuesday, celebrity website Page Six released pictures from the set of The Apprentice that showed Stan as Trump, with a blonde wig and navy suit. The pictures were taken on the set in Toronto.

This picture soon began circulating across social media. In a Reddit post, people discussed whether Stan’s transformation into the controversial former US president was convincing or not. A Reddit user wrote, “Don’t like this casting choice tbh. Maybe I’ll turn out wrong when it comes out but Sebastian is just not giving me Donald Trump in this photo. It just looks like a puffy, sleep-deprived Sebastian Stan with a wig.”
Echoing a similar sentiment, another mentioned, “He doesn’t look like Trump, not even 80s Trump. He has the suit and hair, but his face and makeup just do not work for this. Maybe this is a bad angle or maybe his mannerisms and speaking style will be good enough to make me not notice. TLDR doesn’t look enough like Trump for this to work.”
In his over a decade-long career, Stan has played many real-life characters. In 2017, the 41-year-old actor turned into Jeff Gillooly, the first husband of famous figure skater Tonya Harding for the film I, Tonya. Later in 2022, he went through massive weight loss to play musician Tommy Lee in the 2022 web series Pam & Tommy. He also took on heavy prosthetics to change his appearance for the upcoming thriller A Different Man.
It is interesting to note that Trump has appeared on the big screen twice, once in Home Alone 2 and The Nanny. Over the years, many comedians like Alec Baldwin, Phil Hartman, Darrell Hammond, Taran Killam, and Jason Sudeikis have played Trump in comedy sketches for late-night shows like Saturday Night Live.
