London: Chelsea captain John Terry has hit back at suggestions that senior players in the squad control matters at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny claimed last week that the Blues have been through seven managers since 2007 as a result of their English contingent "running the club". However, Terry has rubbished the accusations, insisting that only owner Roman Abramovich makes decisions over the appointment of managers.
"We win and lose together at this club - we're all responsible for the results we have," he told reporters.
"As for the senior players running this football club, that's nonsense. That's just the perception from outside. Roman and the board make the decisions. On the football pitch, that can affect what happens upstairs of course. If we don't win matches, the board steps in."
"People speculating from various different clubs or previous managers, that's complete nonsense."
The 31-year-old has faced a difficult season after being stripped of the England captaincy and having criminal charges brought against him for allegedly directing a racial slur towards QPR's Anton Ferdinand during a game in October.
But the centreback believes that he has always given his best for Chelsea, despite these distractions.
"I think I've shown that with my performances, despite what's happening off the field," he added. "I know what I have to do for Chelsea. As captain, I'm very fortunate and privileged.
"If you had said 10 years ago that Robbie [Roberto Di Matteo] and I would be sitting here with such a big night coming up, we'd have probably laughed at you."
Chelsea's interim manager Roberto Di Matteo, a former Blues player, took over last Sunday when Portuguese Andre Villas-Boas was sacked after a sequence of one victory in seven matches in all competitions.
