Chelsea may consider making a late move for Jadon Sancho, who seems to be on the verge of leaving Manchester United this summer. Chelsea are reportedly planning a swap deal for Sancho that will see Raheem Sterling move to Old Trafford, as reported by the Telegraph. It also seems like a good opportunity for Sterling, who has not been part of Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea squad so far this season.
Chelsea have not yet reportedly made any progress on the potential swap deal of Sancho and Sterling. Manchester United, however, are believed to be aware of their interest and both parties may sit together soon to discuss the matter.
Manchester United seem keen on offloading Jadon Sancho ahead of the summer transfer deadline. Juventus have also reportedly shown their interest in the English winger. Manchester United expect to let Sancho go for a fee of around £40 million. They also remain open to a loan offer, featuring an option for a permanent buy in the future.
Jadon Sancho returned to Manchester after spending the last season at his former club Borussia Dortmund on loan. The England international, however, warmed the bench during the first two Premier League matches against Fulham and Brighton.
Erik ten Hag claimed that Sancho was not “100 percent match-fit” for the league opener. About his decision to drop the player from the second game, the Dutch manager told TNT Sports, as per Metro, “He’s here at the stadium, but I had a choice to make. We had some issues, we need a full squad. He’s one of them. He has to compete in his position.”
BBC journalist Simon Stone recently claimed that Manchester United will “drive a hard bargain” for any deal they receive for Jadon Sancho before the deadline day. Stone also claimed that Juventus are interested in Sancho and Chelsea have been mentioned as an alternative.
Jadon Sancho parted ways with Borussia Dortmund in 2021 to join Manchester United in a £73-million deal. During his stay at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old has managed to score 12 goals in his 79 appearances across competitions. In international football, Sancho represented England 23 times and found the back of the net thrice.
