Madrid: Real Madrid's newest signing Mesut Oezil has said that joining the Spanish giants is a great way for him to advance his career and has revealed that coach Jose Mourinho was a main factor in him deciding to choose the Blancos.
The nine-time European champions announced the signing of the Germany playmaker from Werder Bremen on Tuesday afternoon, making him the latest young player to have been recruited this summer. Sergio Canales, Pedro Leon, Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira all are 23 or under and Oezil is 21.
However, Oezil knows that he has his work cut out at the Bernabeu but believes that he has made the right decision. "It is the next step in my career," he told Germany Sky. "I had wonderful years here (at Werder Bremen). "The coach (Mourinho) wanted me. Real are a strong team but I need not be afraid."
Oezil will be officially presented as a Real Madrid player on Wednesday at the Bernabeu in the presence of the club's Director General Jorge Valdano.
