Manchester: English champions Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their efforts to make Cristiano Ronaldo the signing of the summer. Ronaldo has put his former club on alert after indicating he will not renew his contract at Real Madrid beyond 2015.
Real are determined not to sell the Portuguese star this summer but United are convinced they can take advantage to bring him back to Old Trafford, who is still a hero with the United fans. United are prepared to offer £50million plus Wayne Rooney to land the superstar.
Former United coach, Alex Ferguson sold Ronaldo to Madrid in 2009, but the 28-year-old has admitted several times in the past few months that he is not totally happy in the Spanish capital. Real President Florentino Perez had earlier stated that he expects Ronaldo to end his career at the club, but it now appears he could be looking for a new club.
Ronaldo on Monday also put his house up for sale in Madrid and did not play in Real's final game of the season after falling out with departing manager Jose Mourinho and the speculations are rife that he might be heading back to Manchester.
Ronaldo was disappointed when Fergie retired but he still fancies a return. United have made contact with his representatives and sponsor Nike are also part of the deal.
