Kay Kay Menon REACTS to Ranvir Shorey's Lack of Acting Offers: 'We Had No Choice But...' | Exclusive
Kay Kay Menon recalls the time when good offers were drying up. He lauds himself and contemporary Manoj Bajpayee for staying resilient through that period.

Ranvir Shorey’s participation in Bigg Boss OTT 3 came as a shock to some and a surprise to others. Throughout the course of the reality show, he made some interesting revelations about his personal life, from his break-up with a female actor (allegedly Pooja Bhatt) to co-parenting his 13-year-old son. He garnered significant support from fans and emerged as the second runner-up. JioCinema’s Shekhar Home marks his first release post-Bigg Boss OTT 3.

During an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Kay Kay Menon, who plays the titular role in the detective series, revealed that he never watched the popular reality show. For the unversed, the actors had previously worked together on three films—Life Ki Toh Lag Gayi, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, and Sirf—and developed a friendship. “I didn’t have the time to watch it,” said The Railway Men and Bambai Meri Jaan actor.

When prodded, he added, “Having said that, I didn’t need to watch Bigg Boss to see Ranvir. We’ve spent enough time together before the show happened to him. Another reason is that I knew I would catch him acting on Bigg Boss OTT. I know him too well.” In Shekhar Home, the duo shares a rather quirky dynamic where they play roommates who eventually come together to tackle a wild mix of mysteries.

At the time of participating in Bigg Boss OTT 3, Ranvir had revealed that his sole reason for joining the show was frustration stemming from a dearth of work and some projects that didn’t materialize. Kay Kay also disclosed that in the pre-pandemic era, he too went through a rough patch when good offers had dried up. Talking about it, he shared, “This was before the OTT boom. It had to do with the fact that in cinema and the films that we see in theatres, the scope for people and actors like us had reduced.”

But he lauds himself and his contemporary Manoj Bajpayee for being resilient even during those tough times. “All through our lives, we had no choice but to play villains or something along those lines. People like me and Manoj are ziddi. We’re just obstinate! We continued our journey through it all. There were perhaps actors more talented than us who fell by the wayside because they didn’t have the tenacity to hold on. So, when OTT platforms came in where stars didn’t work but only actors, opportunities blossomed,” he recalled.

That period proved to be a learning curve for Kay Kay, who understood that despite the uncertainties his career brings, he has to keep believing in himself. “That lull will keep happening. I don’t think Sachin has scored a century in every match he played. He has scored a zero as well, in spite of being Sachin Tendulkar. As long as you’re able to assess yourself honestly as an actor, you should be satisfied. You have to believe that if you’re good enough, offers will come,” he said.
