Siddhant Karnick might have been working in show business for the last two decades but 2023 will always stand out for him. The year saw him being a part of films like Adipurush (where he played Vibhishana) and Animal and the second season of the web show, Made In Heaven (he headlined the segment on domestic violence). Not all of these projects might have necessarily worked but they gave rise to a plethora of conversations on social media.
Referring to this year as ‘absolutely memorable’, Siddhant exclusively tells News18 Showsha, “I would call it the teen patti year. These were the three aces up my sleeve for 2023. I’ve just played my last card. I’m excited to see what happens next. I gave it all my all this year. I was fortunate to get some extremely varied roles and characters and mediums to play in.”
The raging success of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal which saw Siddhant locking horns with him might make one wonder that he is being flooded with offers but the latter makes a candid confession and says that he’s no work as of now. “I’ve a little role in Afghan Snow that’s coming out on Netflix. However, I don’t have any concrete work after this. Three projects I had been working on came out this year. After this, I’ve got nothing lined up,” he states.
He hopes to get more work calls post Animal and emphasises on how he has no qualms in revealing that he’s looking for work at the moment. “I’m hoping that Animal nudges filmmakers to call me and ask me to come for meetings. I want to be honest and transparent [about not having work] because I think it’s our fault as an actors that we don’t speak about our vulnerabilities so much. We only talk about the glamour and the success and the audience feels that that’s all there is to our profession,” he remarks.
The Mahi Way and Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani actor believes it’s his responsibility to not mislead his audience but to give them a truthful glimpse of his professional life. “I would have liked to say that I’m working on a couple of things and be a little vague about it and project this image of being successful but I choose not to do that. I want to be honest and open to my audience,” he iterates.
Siddhant confidently adds, “In fact, I’m hoping all these three projects bring about something for me. I’ve been in this industry for 20 years. I do believe I’ll do another good ten years. As of now, I’ve nothing concrete in my hand but I know opportunities will come up.”
