Significant changes are underway in Bihar’s education sector following the dismissal of KK Pathak, the former Additional Secretary of the Education Department. Under the new directives issued by ACS S Siddharth, students from class 1 through class 12 will now receive school kits, an expansion from the previous distribution limited to classes 1 through 3.
The Education Department has introduced the FLN and LEP kits, with the government investing Rs 498.75 per kit. To receive these kits, students must upload their Aadhaar details on e-Shiksha portal. This policy will be in effect for the academic year 2024-2025.
In addition, the number of school holidays has been increased by six days. The new holidays include Rakshabandhan, Haritalika Teej, Anant Chaturdarshi, Jeevit Putrika Vrat (Jiutiya), Gurunanak Jayanti, and Kartik Purnima. Notably, two additional days have been designated for Teej Vrat.
Samples of the new kits have been dispatched to block offices, and a toll-free number, 14417/18003454417, has been established for quality-related complaints. Parents and students are encouraged to use this service for any issues concerning the kits.
These updates come after protests over the reduction in school holidays over the past year. The changes reflect the Education Department’s response to feedback and a commitment to improving student welfare.
