The big finale of the Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024) was off to a cracking start with Delhi Capitals’ opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma giving the side a good start against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. But Sophie Molineux managed to pick up three wickets in the over to turn the tides in RCB’s favour.
DC scored 64 runs without losing a wicket till the first seven overs. The left-arm spinner, Sophie Molineux was reintroduced into the attack for her second over in the innings and she managed to give the side what they needed.
In the first delivery, she got the wicket of the in-form batter, Shafali Verma who was dismissed on 44 off 27 balls. The batter looked to maintain her aggressive intent and went for the big shot but was unable to clear the boundary ropes. Shafali looked to play the slog-sweep towards the deep mid-wicket area but Georgia Wareham managed to keep her hands steady and take the catch.

The new batter, Jemimah Rodrigues has also been in good touch in the tournament. After defending two deliveries she was deceived by the turn on offer as her sweep shot did not have any contact with the ball as it hit the stumps.

The very next delivery, Alice Capsey who just walked into bat attempted to pre-emptively play the lapped sweep shot. But Molineux had slowed down the pace which caught the batter off-guard and the ball crashed onto the stumps to make it three wickets in the over.
