The years roll on, but the game’s fascination for fiery pacers never will. The art of delivering menacing zingers that leave batters speechless and even scared to face another ball is one that very few possess.

But now, with the unprecedented rise of Lucknow Super Giants’ 21-year-old youngster Mayank Yadav, the entire cricketing world has once again shifted their focus onto the youngster and millions tune in to witness nothing short of a fiery blitzkrieg being brought down upon those who dare to face the pacer.

The right-arm quick bagged a second consecutive 3-wicket haul in the ongoing tournament, registering the third-best bowling figure this season. Days after clocking 155.8 kph against Punjab Kings, he bettered his own record for the fastest ball of IPL 2024 at 156.7. He’s now only the second Indian pacer, after Umran Malik, and fifth overall to go past 156 clicks in the IPL.

All this talk about Mayank Yadav recently got us thinking: where do his deliveries rank in the list of fastest balls to be bowled in the IPL?

Well, look no further because we have compiled a list of the top 10 fastest deliveries to be bowled in the history of the cash-rich league.

Top 10 Fastest Deliveries in IPL history:

  1. Shaun Tait: 157.71 kmph2011
  2. Gerald Coetzee: 157.4 kmph2024
  3. Lockie Ferguson: 157.3 kmph2022
  4. Umran Malik: 157 kmph2022
  5. Mayank Yadav: 156.7 kmph2024
  6. Anrich Nortje: 156.22 kmph2020
  7. Umran Malik: 156 kmph2022

There is much left to be explored with respect to Yadav though. These are still early days in Mayank’s cricketing journey, as he has played just one Ranji Trophy fixture. The speedster missed the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy due to a side strain, later diagnosed as a rib fracture, and lasted only 17.2 overs when he made his first-class debut in the 2022-23 season.

But, with two sensational Player of the Match outings, where the pacer clinched a couple of three-fors consecutively, and continues to menace all with his consistent and unrelenting pace, the future sure looks bright for Yadav, who has lofty ambitions of breaking into the Indian cricket team in time.

Mayank can be caught in action yet again on Sunday, 7th April, when Lucknow Super Giants will take on Gujarat Titans at home in the Ekana Sports City Stadium in Lucknow.
