With Delhi Capitals parting ways with long-time head coach Ricky Ponting, speculations are rife over the new direction the IPL franchise is headed towards. The team has earned the reputation of perennial underachievers considering the strong squads they have assembled over the years but the results have been underwhelming with the runners-up finish during IPL 2020 being their best performance till date. The team has pressed the reset button on their backroom staff and are now in hunt of a new head coach ahead of the next season.

While it’s anybody’s guess who succeeds Ponting into the role, there have been rumours surrounding the future of their captain Rishabh Pant who made his competitive return in IPL 2024 after spending over a year recovering from injuries he suffered due to a car crash.
As per a report, DC isn’t quite happy with how Pant has fared as captain even though his record as a player has been more than impressive. With 3284 runs from 111 matches, Pant is the DC’s all-time leading run-getter and also their most capped player. He’s now spent eight seasons with them.
Amidst the uncertainty, Pant has shared a post on his Instagram account which has sent the tongues wagging. A few users believe that the post has a deeper meaning with claims it’s an indication that the wicketkeeper-batter is headed to Chennai Super Kings.

Pant shared a collage of him and legendary actor Rajinikanth with the duo seated in a similar fashion which the India cricketer captioned ‘Thalaiva’.
Rajinikanth is fondly referred by his fans as ‘Thalaiva’ which means ‘leader’. Fans are linking this to MS Dhoni, a former CSK captain, who’s been given the moniker of ‘Thala’ (leader) by his fans.
As per a report, DC’s Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly is keen on Pant continuing as the franchise captain.
CSK though will be in hunt for a quality wicketkeeper-batter should Dhoni decide on retiring from IPL and given Pant’s credentials, he certainly fits the bill.
