Batting legend Rahul Dravid is reportedly planning his return to the Indian Premier League and is currently in talks with Rajasthan Royals to become as their next head coach. Dravid recently finished his term as the Indian men’s cricket team head coach which ended with the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The announcement could be made soon.
“Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner,” The Times of India quoted a source as saying.

This won’t be the first time that Dravid will be involved with former IPL champions RR. He was their second captain having taken over from the late Shane Warne.
Dravid was 39 when he was handed over the RR captaincy in 2012 and led them in 40 matches of which the franchise won in 23. He later served as their mentor for two seasons (2014, 2015) before being named coach of India’s U-19 and ‘A’ teams.
Under Dravid, India won the 2018 U-19 World Cup before he joined the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru as the head of its cricket operations. He then succeeded Ravi Shastri as the men’s team head coach in 2021 and concluded his stint with a victorious campaign at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The report further added that Zubin Bharucha, RR’s Director of High Performance, is currently assisting Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) coaches.
“I’m assisting Sri Lanka Cricket coaches in how they are setting up practice -from the academy to the international players,” Bharucha was quoted as saying.
However, there’s no clarity over the future of Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara who is RR’s current director of cricket.
The Indian squad has reached Sri Lanka for six white-ball matches including three T20Is and as many ODI starting later this week. It will be the first international assignment for newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir.
