'NAMO 1': Prime Minister Narendra Modi Gets His Own Special Team India Jersey And Number
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been gifted a special Team India jersey by BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Indian cricketers along with outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI top-brass including president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah at his official residence on Thursday. The meeting was held over breakfast and to celebrate their victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

While PM Modi held a lively discussion with the players, he was gifted a special Team India jersey bearing his acronym NaMO and he has been assigned the number 1.

“The triumphant Indian Cricket Team met with the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji, at his official residence today upon arrival,” the Indian cricket team wrote on their official Instagram account.

“Sir, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your inspiring words and the invaluable support you have provided to #TeamIndia,” then post read.

Earlier, the Indian team touched down in the national capital after a 16-hour non-stop flight from Barbados. The team members along with the support staff, board officials and members of Indian media were stuck in Barbados because of Hurricane Beryl.

It brought normal life to a standstill in the island nation. However, once the weather cleared up, the BCCI arranged for a special Air India flight to bring the cricketers home.

A struggling Kohli roared back into form in the final match of the tournament as his measured innings helped India recover from early setbacks.

India were 34/3 in 4.3 overs but thanks to Kohli, who made 76 off 59, they posted 176/7 in 20 overs. For his innings, he was chosen as player-of-the-match.

Having played a vital role in his team securing the trophy, Kohli then announced his retirement from the format and thus drew curtains on a prolific career, saying it’s time for the next generation to take the team forward.

The 35-year-old though will continue to play in Tests and ODIs.
