India Look To Create History & Become 1st Team In The World To...
If India beat Sri Lanka in the first ODI on Friday, then it will become the first team in history to win 100 ODIs against one team.

India will face Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday (August 2). The series opener is scheduled to take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. If India manages to get the better of the Charith Asalanka-led side on Friday, then it will create history and become the first team in the world to win 100 ODIs against one team.

India has won 99 out of the 168 ODIs played so far against the 1996 World Cup winners. In the list of teams with the most wins against one team in ODIs, India is followed by Australia, which has secured wins in 96 out of 142 ODIs played against New Zealand so far. Pakistan is in third place with 93 wins in 157 ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Most wins against one team in ODIs

  • India – 99 vs Sri Lanka
  • Australia – 96 vs New Zealand
  • Pakistan – 93 vs Sri Lanka
  • Australia – 88 vs England
  • Australia – 84 vs India

India will start as favourites to win the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Friday in Colombo. In the last ODI match between the two teams in Sri Lanka, India dismissed the Islanders for 50 runs to win the Asia Cup 2023 final by 10 wickets.

Rohit to lead

Rohit Sharma, who became the third Indian captain to win an ICC trophy on June 29 when India beat South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, will be back in action on Friday and lead the side in the first 50-over match. The right-handed batter loves playing against Sri Lanka and has scored two double centuries against them in the past.

In addition to him, Virat Kohli will also return to action after a month-long break. Kohli, who has 10 centuries to his name in ODIs against Sri Lanka, would like to come up with another big show on Friday and help India register a famous win.

If Kohli manages to score 152 runs in the first ODI, then he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record and become the fastest batter in the world to score 14,000 runs in ODIs. Only two batters till date—Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara—have managed to score 14000+ runs in the 50-over format of the game.
