DC’s performance in IPL 2024
Delhi Capitals finished the IPL 2024 season in sixth position with 14 points and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rishabh Pant-led side managed to win seven matches out of 14 played in the league stage. Captain Pant, who made his comeback to competitive cricket after almost 15 months, finished as the top scorer for the Delhi-based franchise.
DC is one of the three teams that has participated in all 17 editions of the IPL played so far but never managed to win the title even once. DC’s best performance in the IPL was during the 2020 season, when in the tournament played in the United Arab Emirates, it managed to qualify for the final under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. It was the first and only occasion when the Delhi Capitals made it to the summit clash.
DC parted ways with Ponting
After a disappointing show in IPL 2024, the Delhi Capitals parted ways with Ricky Ponting, who served as head coach of the franchise from 2018 to 2024. During his 7-year stint, the Delhi Capitals qualified for the IPL playoffs in 2019, 2020, and 2021. After leaving DC, the former Australian captain, who won the IPL title in 2015 as head coach of the Mumbai Indians, expressed a desire to work in the IPL again, and there’s a high possibility that he will be roped in by some franchise ahead of the start of the 2025 edition of the cash-rich league.
