Delhi Capitals Keep Spirits High, Feast On Hotel Lobby After Losing WPL 2024 Final

Delhi Capitals might have lost their second successive WPL final but the team celebrated a special moment together. They once again came so close to winning the trophy but lost the summit clash to a better team. Despite the heartbreak, the team was seen enjoying a post-match snacking session which highlighted the brilliant season that they had. They had won eight matches out of the 12 that they played and also became the first team to reach the final.

Despite their consistency, the Smriti Mandhana-led side were far better on Sunday. After suffering the heartbreak for the second consecutive time, the DC players kept their spirits high, as they were seen enjoying food and drinks. Australia’s Marizanne Kapp shared a photo of them enjoying snacks on her official Instagram account.

It was a one-sided WPL final which was held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat first. DC openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning gave the team a flying start.

But Sophie Molineux ended their partnership in the eighth over as she first dismissed Shafali for scoring 44 runs off 27 balls. And then in the third and the fourth ball of the over, she dismissed both Alice Capsey and Jemimah Rodrigues for a duck.

The Meg Lanning-led side were left reeling and didn’t know how to react to the situation, and thus the team suffered a batting collapse. Lanning was the only one who could score more than 15 runs . At the same time, Shreyanka Patil also looked in sublime form as she took a four-er and helped the team take charge and thus Delhi were skittled out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs.

In reply, the RCB openers began the chase carefully as they knew that they had the upper hand in the match and should avoid committing any error. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine gave the team the much-needed start and it was Ellyse Perry (35*) and Richa Ghosh (17*) who led the team to victory as RC scored 115/2 in 19.3 overs and won the match by 8 wickets.
