Mumbai: In a pre-Diwali trade, the market fell sharply in last hour of trade. The Nifty ended at lowest closing since September 8. The 50-share index slumped 1131.85 points or 1.7 per cent at 7783.35 while the Sensex slipped 378.14 points or 1.4 per cent at 25743.26.
Auto stocks held steady with Maruti, Bajaj Auto, Hero and M&M as top gainers while HUL also added 1 per cent.
Among major losers in the Sensex were Dr Reddy's Labs, ONGC, Reliance, Coal India and Lupin.
