Toyota India has launched the new Fortuner at a base price of Rs 25.92 lakh and goes all the way up to 31.12 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The Fortuner nameplate has been a popular choice among SUV buyers in India in this price segment, but the Japanese offering had started to look dated when compared to other American offerings like the new Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer. But this time, it's not just a mid-life facelift that's been given by Toyota, it is an all-new model.
If we talk about the interiors then the changes include the addition of a large touchscreen infotainment screen and the materials used inside the cabin are soft-touch materials and the seats are wrapped in leather.
The biggest change, though, has to be under the hood. Toyota has launched the Fortuner with two engine options – a 2.8-litre diesel engine and a 2.7-litre petrol engine. Whereas the diesel unit produces 177 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque, the petrol engine delivers 164 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Fortuner already has a good presence in the segment. Now that it is back in an all-new avatar, it will be interesting to see how it fares against the competition.
