A cricket fan presumably from India had posted on ‘X’ website four days ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia sharing that they had a dream and a costly dream at that. The user simply wrote: “Just had a dream last night, Travis Head scoring Century in Final.” The post made on the platform dated November 16.
Pretty harmless, right? Think again.
Four days later, Travis Head was adjudged Player of the Match against India in front of 130K supporters of the Men in Blue. Aussie opener Head lost his partner David Warner in the second over while chasing India’s modest 241. 5 overs later, the visitors were struggling at 47/3.

Unfazed by the fall of wickets around him, Head looked comfortable and played his shots with intent and total authority. While his partner Marnus Labuschagne played the slow yet long game, Head went after the Indian bowling attack, almost mocking the desi fans who had earlier complained about the “slow and dry” Ahmedabad pitch.
“Never expected this, not in a million years, truly an exceptional day,” Head said at the post-match presentation.
The batter also became the third Australian to score a century in a World Cup final joining the greats Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist in the elite list.

Ricky Ponting was the first Australian to achieve the milestone after he hit a hundred against India back in 2003 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. In 2007, the left-handed Gilchrist scored 149 runs off 129 balls against Sri Lanka at Bridgetown in Barbados.
“Nice list to join, nice to be here, nice to contribute. It’s going to be a nice couple of days, looking forward to it,” Head added.

Head smashed 137 off just 120 balls, an innings decorated with 15 fours and four sixes, before being dismissed with Australia just two runs shy of victory. The opener had shared a fourth-wicket stand of 192 with Labuschagne (58*) as Australia chased down India’s modest target with six wickets and seven overs to spare.
