US President Joe Biden on Tuesday lashed out at his predecessor, suggesting that world leaders told him that Donald Trump cannot win while also expressing their fear about what the Republican leader’s return to the White House could do to the democratic rule across the globe.
His remarks came in reference to his trip to Germany last week just ahead of the presidential polls in November, in which Trump and Kamala Harris will lock horns in the race for the White House.
“Every international meeting I attend, they pull me aside — one leader after the other, quietly — and say, Joe, he can’t win.’ My democracy is at stake,” Biden said at an event in New Hampshire. He further asked if America “walks away, who leads the world?”
‘GOT TO LOCK HIM UP’: BIDEN
Following the speech, Biden visited a campaign office to back New Hampshire Democratic candidates where he said, “We’ve got to lock him (Trump) up”. The line drew applause from the attendees at the office, however, the US President was quick to correct himself stating, “Lock him out, that’s what we have to do”.
Biden didn’t name Harris too many times during his remarks even though he mentioned that she has been endorsed by some top Republicans, including former Rep. Liz Cheney, the GOP’s onetime No. 3 in the House and daughter of ex-Vice President Dick Cheney.
BIDEN SLAMS TRUMP OVER ‘FRIENDSHIP’ WITH PUTIN
The US President lashed out at his predecessor for being proud about being friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also joked that Trump “believes in the free press like I believe I can climb Mt. Everest.” He claimed that those supporting “Make America Great Again” movement and Trump himself has “anti-democratic” attitudes towards the way the Constitution runs and has no regard for it.
“Think about what happens if Donald Trump were to win this election,” Biden said, adding, “He’s not joking about it, he’s deadly earnest” and “It’s a serious, serious problem.” “We must win,” Biden said.
The United States will go to presidential polls on November 5 in which Kamala Harris and Donald Trump face each other after a high-decibel election campaign.
